Living the Spicy Life with The Kaplan Sisters
This week’s interviewees are the beautiful and talented Kaplan Sisters; Gemma, Dena and Ariel. These talented girls are truly living the spicy life.
Gemma is a singer (check her out on itunes here), actress and has an amazing eye for interior design.
Dena is also an actress, an amazing dancer; you may recognise her as Abigail from the show Dance Academy and DJ (she is currently touring around Australia, check out the dates here.)
Ariel is a health and fitness fanatic (she makes cauliflower sushi like a pro!) and is also the wonderful actress who plays Imogen on Neighbours.
We love the Kaplan Sisters because they really live life to the fullest and encapsulate what we feel living the spicy life is all about!
These girls have been such wonderful supporters of my (Mia's) blog Chia Mia for such a long time and I was lucky enough to meet them at a ‘Girls’ Night In’ they hosted at their house to raise money for The Cancer Council. They are such a lovely, warm and welcoming family. Ariel mentions her favourite quote is “If you have good thoughts, they will shine out of your face like sun beams and you will always look lovely”. We feel like these girls embody this quote completely.
What are you most passionate about at the moment and how important do you think it is to incorporate your passion into your career?
Gem: My passion in life is being creative and being kind to people and animals. My dream is to do what I love; Make Music, Make Television but to never lose touch of my passion for caring for animals and children too. Well, all people! Check out the tanfghana.org which I am the Australian Ambassadorial Director for and which the girls also support. We sponsor 6 children through TANF and plan to all visit together very soon.
Ari: I have an insanely large passion for exercise. Some might even say an addiction hehe.
Have you used techniques such as goal setting, meditation, visualization, journaling or any other techniques to get you where you are today? If so, do you use them regularly?
Dena: I always set goals and write lists.. every day almost. I love checking off small goals each day and then visualizing long term goals.
Have you ever had a situation where you may have had performance anxiety such as public speaking? How did you deal with that?
Ari: I’ve always quite liked public speaking but I still get super nervous. I find that preparation is key. As long as I know that I’ve done as much prep as I can, then I know all that’s left to do is put myself out there and trust that I know what I’m doing. I’m such a perfectionist, so I’m always reminding myself that it’s okay to make mistakes and not take things too seriously.
Do you have a beauty secret or tip you can share with us?
Gem: This is not real secret - It's just water. For me hydration is the single most important element to beauty. Oh, also.. Being kind; I think beauty has a way of radiating from inside out.
Dena: I have never slept in my makeup in my entire life, and I clean my skin properly every night before bed then mosituzire a lot.. I also get monthly facials. to me its worth it as having good skin makes me feel happier and more confident.
Ari: Sweating is my secret! Not only does it clear the skin (as long as you’re not wearing make-up), it detoxes and it means endorphins are being released - winner!
If you had to choose one song to be the theme song for your life what would it be and why?
Dena: Closer To my dreams- GOAPLE
Ari: Who run the world - Beyonce.
What do you do each day to add fun and Spice to Your life?
Gem: I love challenging myself. I am always finding new things I want to explore. Some may say I’m a Jack of all trades, master of none but for me it’s more about exploring all that this brilliant world has to offer. I like to be a little bit afraid about new adventures and then the reward seems somehow greater. I’ve tried my hand at Makeup, Hair, Baking, Cooking and now I'm working as an Interior Designer - of course my focus is still music and acting but there are many hours in a day and time for it all if you chose to make the time and are willing to sacrifice some things.
Dena: Music to me adds spice to every situation, its always so important and keeps me inspired, motivated and happy.
What is your Favourite:
Quote: Gem: For Attractive lips, speak words of kindness.
For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.
For beautiful hair, let a child run their fingers through it once a day.
For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.
People, more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed. Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of each of your arms.
As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself and the other for helping others.
